Advocare 24 Day Challenge: 13 Tips & Tricks

advocare_24_day_challenge_tips_tricks_results_easy

I've been a little quite here in blogland recently and not because I don't have anything to say, that NEVER happens, but because I've been so busy with work, getting ready for the pre-ception, shooting a wedding in Chicago and procrastinating doing all the laundry and all the cleaning, ugh!

With September on the horizon and the summer coming to an end I can feel myself craving that very structured routine that slipped away from me this summer. I went into the summer with a clean mind and great routine but like all things, life happens and we were busy spending our days outside, staying up late and drinking beer, all the beer oh and eating all the snacks! Although I'm years past that "going back to school" buzz I still get a high when I see the back to school stuff start floating around. Call me crazy but my little OCD heart and brain just fill up with endorphin's and make me tingle inside, that school supply high though!

My gym routine has been a little lack luster lately (say that 10 times fast!) and my eating habits have been, how shall I say, crap-aye so it's time to get back to my happy place. This means back to really following IIFYM eating, taking my supplements (Advocare in my case) and getting my sweat on at the gym. I have already done the Advocare 24 Day Challenge before, and saw great results so with 30 days till our Pre-ception wedding party I'm ready to start another one! This will be just in time to enjoy everything we are having catered and boy am I excited for that one folks!

(check out the whole post here)

While I'm getting ready to start another challenge I realize that I've also been getting a ton of emails lately asking tips and tricks on how to meal prep, the best way to do the cleanse, what I eat, what workouts I do, etc. So since I'm starting another challenge myself, I figured I'd respond to the emails individually but also make one big old juicy post for ya. If you are interested in doing the 10 day cleanse or the full 24 day challenge shoot me an email or you can check out more info here

1. Mix the unflavored fiber drink with spark. Mix the fiber drink in with a spark, any flavor will do, you won't be disappointed! My favorites are Mango Strawberry, pink lemonade and grape. It's easy to drink and gives you a little boost of energy while taking your fiber. You can also mix it into a juice or smoothie in the morning or, even into your oatmeal!

2. Download the 24 Day Challenge app. It's free and they have timers in there that will go off to remind you when to take what! You can also track your meals, work outs and water as well. If you don't want to do that, you can always set alarms in your phone as well. My first time around I didn't know about the app and I went that route, this time I downloaded the app and don't have to worry about a thing.

3. Take before and after pictures. Even if you plan on showing nobody, plan on showing yourself. Pictures say a thousands words and can make you see things that maybe that dreadful scale isn't showing you! I suggest taking pictures in a bathing suit and in jeans and a tank top or sports bra. This will help you see results in different clothing situations. Take pictures at day 1, day 10 (after the cleanse is done) and on day 24. TRY and take them in the same outfit every time too. Remember that sometimes you might not be losing a ton of weight but the way your clothes fit and how you feel on the inside is a HUGE win and can sometimes trump a weight loss. Inches have always been more important to lose than pounds in my opinion. Also, remember that muscle weighs more than fat! I noticed I gained a lot of muscle last time but thought I should have lost more numbers/weight based on how I felt. With that being said, take your measurements! Theighs, arms, butt, bust waist and hips.

4. Read the Daily Guide booklet. As soon as you get that beautiful box make sure you open everything and read the booklet. It can be overwhelming but if you take the time to read it over it will make the next 24 days a piece of cake! Plus, it breaks everything down to when you need to take certain supplements and what to eat for meals, because you'll be eating, a lot!

5. Meal plan. There's really no way to get around this. You need to plan your grocery shopping out every week with your meals in mind. You don't have to eat the same thing for lunch and breakfast everyday, but you totally can if it's easier for you. I tend to eat the same thing for breakfast but alternate a few different options for lunches. Then I always have something different for dinner. This will really help you stay on track and you shouldn't be making excuses to buy that pizza at lunch because you "don't have anything to eat."

6. Do the challenge or cleanse with someone. My cousin and her then boyfriend, now fiancé, did it together and I thought that was so smart! When I did my first challenge Jerek wasn't doing it with me but was super supportive and cooked dinner with me in mind. In fact, it actually changed his eating and exercise habits without me even having to nag him to! It's always more fun to do something with a partner, friend or co-worker especially when it comes to weightless and healthy living.

7. Do the challenge when it fits into your life. I held off doing my first challenge for almost a year because things always came up or rather, I always had excuses to not start. I personally knew that if I was going to spend the money, I was going to go 100% all in. I didn't want to start it at a time that I was booked solid with weddings, BBQ's or vacations because I know myself and I wouldn't do it well. I also get a lot of moms asking me about it and I highly suggest waiting until you have a good routine down in your life. There's no sense in starting and then getting stressed because of the timing and then not achieving optimal results because your busy trying to get your new family status under wraps.

8. Don't cheat. At all! Coffee and alcohol was going to be my biggest downfall the first time around. I knew that going into it. I was happy to report I didn't have a sip of either and I actually now drink about half the amount of coffee as I use to. Cheating takes away from your commitment and your overall success. A bite of carrot cake here, half a glass of beer there, it adds up and every time you will just think, 'it's just one bite...it's just one sip.' This isn't called the "24 day give it a good try" it's a CHALLENGE people and it's 24 days! You'll be fine!

9. Exercise. This is not a weight loss pill or a magic potion. The challenge is designed to give you a guideline for your food intake combined with supplements to help you drop some lbs and inches, and give your body a fresh reset. While I really believe that 80% of weight loss is based around what you put into your body the other 20% is exercise. You need to keep moving, do something! You can't just eat good, take the supplements and expect total change. So get off your buns and go build that bootay, go shrink that waistline or grow your biceps! Whatever your goals are, just get up and DO IT!

10. Pinterest food ideas. It's easy to buy fast food, pick up a bag of chips at the store or skip a meal all together. Like I said before, you need to meal plan but to get ideas outside of chicken, rice and veggies, hop on over to Pinterest and look up 24 day challenge food ideas or healthy easy dinner ideas. This is not a diet that you do for 24 days, it's a lifestyle change that you should keep implementing well after your 24 days is up. I love pasta but I also know how many carbs and sugars it holds so now 99% of the time I will cook up some spaghetti squash with lean ground turkey to satisfy my pasta needs. Here are some other things I eat while doing the 24 day challenge or not.

11. Don't weigh yourself every day. I didn't have a scale when I was doing my first challenge. I made the mistake and bought one after and I step on it every morning when I wake up. Dumb dumb dumb. While on the challenge only weigh yourself on day 1, day 10(after the cleanse) and day 24, when you are done with it. There's no need to analyze the numbers day after day.

12. Ask for help. I can't tell you how many emails I got from my last post after finishing the challenge. People were asking me for help and advice because they bought their challenge no one reached out with meal ideas, work outs or anything. I remember I reached out to my coach all the time during my first challenge and have met a ton of other women, mothers and new friends through this process it's been very inspiring and exciting.

13. Stop making excuses. Everyone always asks me how I manage to work full time, take on motherhood duties, run an Etsy shop, a blog, a YouTube channel, workout, etc, etc. My view is this, everyone gets the same 24 hours in a day, how you choose to spend it depends on you. Yes, there are days where I wake up early to work out before anyone gets up and nights where I stay up late waiting for the kids to fall asleep so I can edit a video or write blog posts until 2 am. Some nights I make everyone's lunches the night before, I shower, have all the laundry done, watch a few shows and clean out my inbox all before midnight. Then there are days where I do nothing but sit on my couch and stare aimlessly at my phone, complaining because I'm so lazy and eat all the carryout one can in 24 hours. But I always find that when my schedule is full, my heart and brain are full, they are satisfied because they are moving. So stop making excuses that you will start tomorrow and start today. So what if you ate a crappy lunch, don't tell yourself you will start in the morning, start at dinner, just stop making excuses.

"There are only two choices; make progress or make excuses"

My excuses stopped when I headed back to the gym and started my 24 Day Challenge. It was one of the best decisions I've ever made as it provided me with overall wellness and a plan that has extended well past 24 days. It's easy to say you want to start eating right, you want to exercise but until you come up with a plan and actually start doing these things, you will keep making excuses. I'm not saying you have to do the 24 Day Challenge, there are certainly many other programs out there that could be the swift kick in the ass that you need, but you need to have a plan and one with guidance is key. I fully believe you must do something for a certain amount of time to break bad habits, learn how to eat correctly and find what exercise's work for you specifically.  Once you have gotten the basic's down, you start seeing and feeling results you will then be able to prepare and commit yourself further into a lifestyle change.

I hope you found this helpful for anyone that has emailed me with questions and you feel confident and excited about joining in on the 24 day challenge or even the 10 day cleanse! If you still have more questions make sure to read my last post on my first experience here and feel free to email me with anything additional! {eastwillowgrove@gmail.com}

HAPPY FRIDAY FRIENDS!

Recent Target Purchases + a giveaway

Sunday nights usually start off with Jer and I complaining how we really don't feel like going to work tomorrow. We rarely make lunches the night before and no matter what we are always running late come Monday morning. Yesterday wasn't one of those days because we took the day off, BOOM! Just like that, Sunday wasn't that bad and Monday got a whole lot better!

While enjoying our day off, I ran into Target to exchange a pair of shoes for Sky and well, you know how that goes. You walk in to get flour and spend $100 at the Target dollar spot! I didn't too bad this time, walked out with the shoes I needed for Sky and $25 worth of goodies, SCORE!

With out pre-ception coming up I knew I wanted to keep my eyes open for cute thank you cards and I managed to score a bunch for a total of $5 at the good old dollar spot section. I also picked up a few folders and planner supplies that I 'needed' and while doing so I decided I would pick up a few extra goodies for...a GIVEAWAY!

Whenever I find Target dollar spot goodies I feel blessed. I know, that makes me sound like a freaking lunatic but this shit goes fast! Once Target stocks the dollar section it's raided like a sale going on a Lululemon's, except sales at Lulu's don't really happen, I digress. Most times I pick up more than I need because you may never see those cute planner stickers ever again!

So yesterday while there I stumbled upon a rack of goodies that clearly no one found and I just couldn't leave them there to suffer alone. They needed me, I needed them and you needed them! So I picked them up, paid and  attempted to avoid eye contact with Jerek when I got home so he didn't ask too many questions. You know the usual smile when I walk in the door, then look down at my arms that are gripping on to those white and red bags like a kid at Christmas asking questions like 'what did you buy now that you just couldn't live without...' The guy knows me best people, he knows me best!

So here you go, a little something from me to you! There's a little bit of everything, cards, folders, a notebook, a cute new planner and some office supplies. I know how devastating it can be when you see something on Instagram and then can't find it later on, it's like a little piece of your heart slips away when those bins are empty. All jokes aside, I love Target, I love the dollar spot and I love giving gifts for people!

WEDNESDAY| Pants + Top + Shoes (similar)

Alright guys it's time to finish the laundry, packing & charging to the cameras & off to Chicago we go! XO

Wedding Talk: Boys Outfits

Having the boys in the wedding has probably been one of the things I've been excited about the most. I will probably just cry seeing them, never mind them walking me down the isle and me trying to keep it together to read vows. Eff!

Summer is coming to and end and I'm about to go ham on the sale racks! I need to scoop up as much summer gear as I possible for our trip to Mexico in April. I'm talking shorts, shirts, swim suits, swim shirts, wedding attire, everything. I need to get it all before it's full price next spring and I'm left cursing up a storm because I waited so long.

SO with that being said here are a few of the different looks I'm thinking for the boys for the wedding in Mexico. Keep in mind we still aren't sure what Jer and the guys will be wearing but I'm jonesing for navy pants and a light top, that's a topic for another day though!

little_boy_wedding_outfit_ideas

So what number is your favorite? Me, personally, I like 2, 3 with a side of 4. The sass in 6 is amazing but I think it might be too warm for the jacket. Trace has already said he's not "doing" suspenders so there's that. I'm really leaning towards navy shorts because stains yo! Now to find all the deals, all the sales and all the clothes!

What I'm Wearing

Good morning! Hello! Hope you are doing great and if you aren't well, you are the only one who can change that and I hope you do because guys, it's Friday!

Yesterday's post was one of those that just poured out of me. I didn't sit down and think hmm, I'd like to talk about something mommyish today, what shall it be! Basically word vomit, and then I spell checked it.

Sometimes when I write motherly/parenting posts I hesitate to push publish. I mean, really, who am I to give advice as I only have two kids, they are only under 5 and I'm only 29. However over the last 2 years I hope you have gotten to know me and that the filter on my mouth only works about 25% of the time. This is usually in work settings (although some beg to differ) and when I'm talking to my grandparents, although I've probably slipped a F bomb here or there with them, sorry gram!

Know that when I complain, when I spew at the mouth or when I try to be uplifting and encouraging it comes from a good place. I read SO.MANY.BLOGS and when I come across something that resonates with me I think to myself how happy I am to have read that post, maybe it changed my way of thinking or maybe just lifted me up from the hole I've been laying in for the past few days feeling sorry for myself. Yes, that was a huge run on sentence, I know. Whatever that may be, I hope that maybe you find that in my any of mother/parenting post.

While I enjoying writing a sappy, feel good post I sure do love taking selfies in the mirror every morning for these Friday posts!

This week was a full 5 days or work {BOO!} But next week is a 3 day work week so BOOYA!

You may have noticed that I wore Monday's outfit a few weeks ago on Thursday but I changed up my shoes, this can sometimes change an entire outfit. I'm really trying to find new ways to wear the clothes I already have before I go bat shit crazy and drop money that should be for other things, IE: the wedding, and spend it on new clothes.

Yes, I also realize I'm wearing a flannel around my waist and have ZERO intent on putting it on, well maybe in my office because it's freezing in here, but besides that it was solely put on to add a little color and show off my waist, making it appear to look smaller. I will also be headed to the gym straight after work to work on said waist, happy Friday! TGIF!!!

Motherhood is Hard

The lines of motherhood are often blurred between am I a good mom or am I not good enough.

I've found that I often question myself based on things I say or how I react in instances.

Motherhood is a tricky thing and one you will never get right.

You get called a helicopter parent if you hover too much at the playground but then are referred to as lazy for sitting on the bench on your phone. You're judged if you're too "crunchy" or not crunchy enough. Stared at if your car seat is forward facing or eyes rolled at you if it's still reverse at the age of 4.

If you're a stay at home mom your ridiculed for not working by the working moms and the working moms are then talked about in play group, they must not love their kids enough to have someone else 'raise' them. Us unwed mothers get asked if you're still with the 'father', and if you are, the follow up question is always 'so why aren't you married?'

I'm constantly trying to find balance with my my 29 year old self. The one that has friends the same age but not in the same chapter of life. Constantly wondering if the boys are proud of all that I do, all that I juggle. Or quite the opposite, do they think I do too much, or that I'm not around enough.

Every day, every single day, is filled with doubt, insecurities and questions to yourself.

Am I doing this right?
Could I being doing this better?
What do people think of me?

But every day is a new day, one that the past can't be dwelled on but the present can be worked on. We have the options to choose our reactions based on the situations we are presented with. You can choose to be miserable or you can choose to be happy, it's as simple as that. Wake up every morning and tell yourself, I am good mom. Nothing more, nothing less. But believe it, live it. Understand that you have bad days, months and sometimes years. As a parent, this is a race you will never win, but never lose, if you do your best.

Let your actions speak louder than the words you feel like uttering to the old lady at Target. The one that looks at your left hand and then at your cart of children, whose mouths are covered with chocolate and socks that don't match. Do your best at that very moment, no matter how much of a hot mess you may look like on the outside. And remember...

A lion does not concern himself with the opinions of the sheep.

What I'm Wearing

Hey ya'll! It's Friday again and the third What I'm Wearing post! I realize I'm taking selfies of myself with less than par lighting and most likely a few, or more finger prints grace themselves on my mirror, but do we like these? I'm really digging them to be honest! I've been surfing around Pinterest more looking for inspiration that I can pull out of my own closet in hopes that I inspire you to do the same! That made sense right?

This week we started Monday off with no work, hence the off the shoulder top I wore, wahoo! Jer and I had another day off so we rushed and dropped the kids off at daycare and started our day of house projects and drinks on the patio! We headed down to Ferndale and had taco's, hot dogs and beer at Imperial and it was glorious! Then we headed back home and I filmed a new video and worked on finishing my dressing room, which it's finished thanks to the wonderful man that's good with a hammer and nails, Jerek! Room tour coming soon yooo!

The rest of the week was work, work and more work! It's a really a busy time there if I haven't stressed this enough by now. I'll spare you the boring automotive talk but I'll be traveling soon in September, October and November so I'm trying to make sure the home front is my main priority lately, Tracen doesn't do well when I'm gone over night.

[Here and here are the other What I'm Wearing posts in case you missed them

I'm getting pretty excited for fall to come, I love pumpkin spiced everything, big huge, chunky knit sweaters, boots and beanies. My face lights up just thinking about it all! Since I work full-time and we have a casual dress code the summer months are hard to dress for to be honest, so the cooler weather is something I don't mind, strictly for dressing for work purposes! Happy Friday folks!

August Goals

Lets cut to the chase here people. It's August 4th and we have goals to talk about!

1. Stay on my Macros/Gym routine- Macros', were about 75% stuck to. I basically am great at work but if the night time or weekends hit me in July, it was a game changer. You live and you learn and you just keep moving!

2. Restart Kayla Itsines plan- MAJOR.FAIL. Like I said, July was hard on me because our calendar was filled with events. I'm for real starting today, the 4th and will be at about 9 weeks when the Pre-ception is which will hopefully give me the results I'm looking for.

3. Finish my dressing room remodel/refresh- I just finished hanging the artwork yesterday. That's a total lie. JEREK, finished hanging everything yesterday for me but it's done and I'm so excited to share it with you soon. Jer even said that the little space came across so nice and he can totally see my vision and the "pins" I was modeling it after! Post coming soon guys!

4. Plan Skylor's 2nd birthday- ugh! He's two and the party was planned. Nothing crazy, just a few people for cupcakes and ice cream. If you missed his birthday video, here it is to watch.

5. Renew license plate tabs & license- I'm late on that train but yes, it's done, I'm just waiting for them to arrive in the mail. Which hopefully I don't get pulled over while I don't have them. BTW, so many bars and grocery stores follow the "if your license is expired, we can't sell to this person rule." RUDE!!!

new_years_goals

1. Keep moving- This may sound dumb, but since July was so busy I felt like I was either at work or we were off doing things. While these things were always fun, I felt like I didn't take enough walks, work out enough or do enough physical activity. If we're Fitbit friends you probably noticed! I swear I couldn't get 10,000 steps in if I tried!

2. Make a chiropractic appointment- I've been waiting to try and see if this will help with my migraines and lower back pain and have yet to ever been adjusted. Leave me a comment if you have recommendations in the Metro Detroit area!

3. Finalize pre-ception details- We went over where everything is going to be at my moms the other day but I still need to book a couple things and start printing some signs and getting the little decorations all set up. I want this done by the time Labor day is here because I know those next few weeks before are going to be busy at work and at home.

Giving myself 3 goals for the month and keeping them pretty attainable is key right now when we have so much going on. Happy Tuesday and Happy August! I will have a new video up for you tomorrow (not a vlog) so look for that too!

XO
