How to Style a Lob + Video

how_to_style_lob

About a month ago I drove my hairdresser nuts by texting her non-stop, begging to chop my hair off. You see I usually send Jamie a bajillion photos of 'how I want my hair' to be and then she kindly reminds me that I'm spontaneous and to think things through. So naturally I went in a week before our pre-ception party and told her I still wanted to chop it all off. So she finally gave in and I love it!

So as always, I went in with some photos to base it off of and we went from there (here are some of the photos I brought in.) I also wanted to darken my base since the fall was approaching and I've been rocking a bright blonde hue for a while now. Most people would think I'm crazy for doing such a dramatic change up right before our party but that's what I do, I get bored, antsy and stressed right before big things are happening. I also like change, unlike most, I like that uneasy feeling of not knowing my reaction, plus, hell, IT'S HAIR DUDE!!!

It's been a solid month of getting use to using less shampoo, extremely fast blow drying and learning how to style my new lob. I've gotten many many requests to show how I curl it now that it's shorter. For some reason people always think they can't use the same tools as girls with long luscious locks, and that is totally not true.  So I decided I would show you how I'm using my NUME wands, you know, the one I'm ALWAYS raving about, to show you how you can curl short hair! If you want to see me with longer hair using the wand, here is the video for that. PS. I know I'll get asked, so the lip color is Wet n Wild-Vamp It Up and it is super affordable and one of my favorites for the fall and winter!

NUME DISCOUNT CODES:

NUMEFORME- ANY wand + free trial size Shampoo & Conditioner: $26 (till 10/25)

Recent Target Purchases + a giveaway

Sunday nights usually start off with Jer and I complaining how we really don't feel like going to work tomorrow. We rarely make lunches the night before and no matter what we are always running late come Monday morning. Yesterday wasn't one of those days because we took the day off, BOOM! Just like that, Sunday wasn't that bad and Monday got a whole lot better!

While enjoying our day off, I ran into Target to exchange a pair of shoes for Sky and well, you know how that goes. You walk in to get flour and spend $100 at the Target dollar spot! I didn't too bad this time, walked out with the shoes I needed for Sky and $25 worth of goodies, SCORE!

With out pre-ception coming up I knew I wanted to keep my eyes open for cute thank you cards and I managed to score a bunch for a total of $5 at the good old dollar spot section. I also picked up a few folders and planner supplies that I 'needed' and while doing so I decided I would pick up a few extra goodies for...a GIVEAWAY!

Whenever I find Target dollar spot goodies I feel blessed. I know, that makes me sound like a freaking lunatic but this shit goes fast! Once Target stocks the dollar section it's raided like a sale going on a Lululemon's, except sales at Lulu's don't really happen, I digress. Most times I pick up more than I need because you may never see those cute planner stickers ever again!

target_style

So yesterday while there I stumbled upon a rack of goodies that clearly no one found and I just couldn't leave them there to suffer alone. They needed me, I needed them and you needed them! So I picked them up, paid and  attempted to avoid eye contact with Jerek when I got home so he didn't ask too many questions. You know the usual smile when I walk in the door, then look down at my arms that are gripping on to those white and red bags like a kid at Christmas asking questions like 'what did you buy now that you just couldn't live without...' The guy knows me best people, he knows me best!

So here you go, a little something from me to you! There's a little bit of everything, cards, folders, a notebook, a cute new planner and some office supplies. I know how devastating it can be when you see something on Instagram and then can't find it later on, it's like a little piece of your heart slips away when those bins are empty. All jokes aside, I love Target, I love the dollar spot and I love giving gifts for people!

Online Grocery Shopping with Door to Door Organics

Ahh can you smell it, the birds are chirping and the snow is melting and there's fresh food on your doorstep.

wait, what?

Yup, fresh, organic food ON your doorstep when you arrive home from work after a busy busy day!

If you watch my vlogs from time to time you'll notice we are at the grocery store a lot. Every weekend to be exact. The boys eat everything we have in house within days and it's exhausting! As a mom of two I make my grocery list in the order of the isle. Produce first, frozen second and so on, you can say I have the store memorized by heart. I know exactly how many minutes we have before Skylor looses his shit and wants to walk or Tracen screams "let me out of here!" at the top of his lungs. I usually don't grocery shop alone in efforts to avoid everything I just mentioned.

This is when Door to Door Organics comes in. I've heard about DTDO for some time now but always assumed it was outrageously expensive and with three hungry boys to feed I figured it was out of the question. Recently I decided to take a look and to my surprise it was very affordable, convenient and had a ton of different options. I could grocery shop in my pajamas on my computer!

DTDO is not just a fresh produce box it's an online grocer that offers a variety of organic, natural and best of all LOCAL products! They help the consumers, you and I, make easy and healthy food choices all while supporting the communities that we all live in.

Here's how it works, you choose either a weekly or bi-weekly delivery of organic produce. You then choose the delivery day and the size of box you would like. You can also decide if you want the box full of fruits, veggies or a mix of both. I personally have gone with the Itty Bitty box since I wasn't sure how fast the food would be eaten.

Every week I log on to the website to see what my box will contain, it's like a sneak peak at Christmas I tell ya! After reviewing all the items you will receive you can then sub out up to five items. This week I knew I didn't need the radish or onion coming my way so I grabbed the avocados and bananas for the boys and I. These are two staple items I know we go through a ton of! My biggest mistake this week was forgetting to add the other items I wanted to my cart before Thursday at noon. DTDO has this great function where you can alter your cart up to a day before it's due to deliver! Next week's box I will be sure to add on fresh organic meat that we can grill, in honor of spring don'tcha know so stay tuned for that post!

All of the produce is USDA certified organic and sourced locally whenever possible. With the summer months coming up I can't wait to see what our box will entail! Some of the other awesome features DTDO offers is leaving a cooler out and telling the carrier to place your box in it (very helpful in the summer months!) They also allow you to change your box size or frequency from weekly to bi-weekly if you aren't finishing everything or perhaps you live with three very hungry boys and need MORE food! Another great feature is the option to skip a box if you are gone on vacation and reschedule for when you come back, score!

Produce aside, DTDO is a full on organic grocery store that offers everything you need to keep your fridge and cupboards full! From steak, chicken, seafood and tofu to eggs, almond milk, coffee, chocolate and noodles! They even have frozen organic burritos, hello lunch at work! DTDO is all about recycling so be sure to leave your old box and packaging materials out on delivery day and they will reuse or recycle in the best possible way.
I'm sure you're nodding your head and you're like yes, yes, YES, sign me up! Then today is your lucky day! Enter to win a $50 gift card to Door to Door Organics by using the Rafflecopter below. A small side note though, please check to see if DTDO delivers in your area. You can do this by entering in your zip code in the search box here. However, if you are reading this and not in the area but have a friend or family member that is, still enter. If you win you could always give a gift of fresh food on someone else's doorstep! I know personally I would love to come home to that as a gift! In the mean time be sure to follow DTDO on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook for future giveaways, coupon codes and unbelievable recipes! If you just can't wait for this giveaway and want to order now {I don't blame you!} you can use the code ' MIBLOGGER' to receive $10 off your first order.

Black Friday Etsy Shops + a GIVEAWAY!!!

This post is brought to you by me, myself and my coffee. While 90% of the college population was probably hung over yesterday I was not. Probably because I've been out of college for 5 years and also because I can't fathom going out like that when we have kids to take care of in the morning. Aint no body got tiiiiiimmmeee for that! While I didn't participate in wasted Wednesday at the bar I am Black Friday shopping this morning. Now I'm not one of those people you will find in line at 4am waiting for a blender that's half price {although I do need a new one} but I tend to go out around 9 or 10 am today as well as I shop online. Ohhhh do I love shopping online!

In honor of Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday coming up I wanted to share some of my favorite Etsy shops that we've purchased from in the past. {PLUS theres an AMAZING giveaway going on thanks to Barbara from 'Hello Barbara' and shop owner of 'Markee Market'}

If you've seen my post on our half bath makeover you've seen how we transformed our unusable small space into a regularly used thrown! I recently ordered these little 'targets' to help Tracen aim and if were being honest here {which I try to always be} it's for any male that enter's this house! Pee on the dino, pee on the mother F#!*ing DINO guys! I also got this friendly reminder 'put me down' to remind them that when they are done to put that seat back down..subtle right ;) I purchased both of these cute little decals from Cover It In Vinyl. They came with very in depth instructions so any dummy {IE: me} could do it and even gloves, how thoughtful! Cover It In Vinyl overs decals for your shoes, doors, and even nails! These really are great stocking stuffers!

Next up is Jewelry, something every mama, sister and wife would love to get! Chelsea from Flower Child Alchemy specializes in handmade vintage jewelry that has a bohemian & whimsical feel. With 30% off all orders till December 6th you better order now!

I am currently in the process of uploading more design and chalkboard prints to my Etsy shop so keep an eye out for that! However I am offering 40% off all downloadable prints in my shop East Willow Grove: The Shop till December 24th using the code word 'CHRISTMASTIME' at checkout.

Last but not least this sign!!!! *Insert emoji heart eyes* this sign has been our newest addition to our family room! While we still need to figure out how were going to hide the wires {Jerek's biggest pet peeve} we are IN LOVE!!!

My friend Barbara and fairly new blogger, writes over at Hello Barbara and is the owner of Marquee Market. Barbara use to live in Michigan but her and her husband recently moved down south to Charlotte, North Carolina where she runs her blog and Etsy shop. Girlfriend escaped the winter just in time and is making a name for herself with these signs! With her most popular item being the 'LOVE' sign I opted for something a little different. OMG right! I had plans to put this in my dressing room but when Jerek started painting our back family room the other day we he had the brilliant idea to put it above the couch!

Barbara offers different material options at different price points so there is always something for someone! My sign has letters made out of 24" metal which are new to her shop! They can be painted any color you choose but I opted to keep the raw metal look and add some 'rust' spots. Marquee Market also takes custom orders so chat Barbara up on Etsy with any questions you may have. The icing on the cake is that Barbara and I am hosting a giveaway for one lucky winner that will win their very own LOVE sign! This is the ultimate gift in my book!

HAPPY SHOPPING!!!

Starbucks is Life

You might think this is a joke, but it's not! I get people asking me ALL the time what I order because I Instagram or talk about the bux A LOT; I know, I have issues, it's fine. I wanted to break it down to you on what I order from the way I order it and the amount of calories are in each drink just incase you're looking to change up your coffee drankkkk.

I'm serious, if you don't believe me just keep reading! Starbucks is no joke to me. There are are only a few other places I enjoy going to get my caffeine fix and those are super local. My girlfriend Chelsea did get me hooked on the coffee bean but we don't really have them here in Michigan so I'm partial to my Starbucks.

Why I Recommend Products + a NUME wand giveaway!

A few weeks ago I debuted our family photos and still haven't figured out what ones we will print and display in the house. Because I love a good selfie, I posted a picture on my Instagram and people seemed to really like my hair {the cut, color & the curl.} Like I've said before, the cut and color are ALL Jamie, my hairstylist. However the curl, that's me, or NUME rather.

I belong to a mommy group on Facebook called Mommyhood 101. People post pictures of things for sale, they post stories of crazy family members, they ask questions at 4am in need of help, advice or someone else who is up and wants to chat! It's a really nice community and although some posts don't always apply to me, I answer things when I see fit. As a mom of two I noticed a lot of moms talking about be strapped for time and how do people do it.

When an email from NUME came across my inbox for a deal that only lasted 3 days, I posted this:

 A curling wand that retailed for $169 and was on sale for $28 was something that I could not keep to myself! So I posted it on my personal Facebook page and Instagram as well. It's no secret I love a good deal and I love a good deal on something that works! I've used a ton of different curling irons and wands over the years and I've realized, you pay for what you get. But with NUME and their coupon codes and packaged deals you always score a great and affordable deal!

After I posted the picture and answered some questions people had on what size to get {I have the 19mm and ordered the 25mm using the coupon code} I went to bed, feeling good that so many other moms were scoring the same great deal I was.

Fast forward a week and I'm on Facebook and come across this picture on my news feed:

A few days later I see this post:
Do you know what its like to post a picture of yourself and like what you see or get over 238 people liking a photo of your face or what its like to feel like a sexy mama or what it's like to have mostly strangers, tell you that you look amazing, cute and beautiful. It's a damn good feeling and this isn't even me or my photo! I just love that these other women are feeling good about themselves just from me thinking that maybe I'll post a photo of my hair, because I also, like these women, like what I saw that day and I love to share deals.

Last week I posted a video of my makeup on my Youtube channel from our family pictures and as promised to everyone that comment on my hair on my Facebook and in MH101, I did a tutorial on how I personally use my NUME 19mm wand to get the look you saw from the very first photo above. Because I love this wand SO much and I know a lot of people weren't able to score the deal I decided that I would do a giveaway of one of the NUME 19mm wands that I bought with the coupon code! I also emailed NUME and asked for any coupon codes I could let people in on as many missed the great $28 deal and they were so kind to send me over some to use. I stated this before but anytime I get promo emails I'll post so you are the first to know about these offers! So without further mumble jumbo you can watch me do my make-up HERE and my hair curling tutorial HERE using the NUME 19mm wand! The giveaway will be open for 1 full week and is NOT sponsored in any way!

How I named my blog + Giveaway

How did you come up with that name?
I get this a lot.
I get this from my dog's name Ducati,
my sons' names Tracen and Skylor
and also with this blog.

None of these names were thought up over night. In fact I'm so crazed about naming such things that it took me months to think of dog names, baby names and a hell of a lot of blog names. Since this is about how I named my blog, I'll shy away from the other boys mentioned.

East Willow Grove began in my head while I was pregnant with Tracen, writing in a baby journal that I will give him when he's older. It began in the glider in the nursery as I was projectile vommited on and crying. As I rocked him to sleep I thought about the day, the things we did and the pictures I took. It began when we went to cider mills and pumpkin patches, dinner dates and early morning brunches with friends. It began in bathrooms waiting for pregnancy tests to show two pink lines to house hunting, lots of house hunting. It began after disappointments, hospital visits, tears, after loosing house after house after house. It began after birthday parties and anniversary celebrations, after first heard heartbeats and laughter. It began after drives to church and snowstorms, after births of babies and nights of screaming toddlers. The funny thing is, it began years ago, before I hit publish.

I've been reading blogs for years now, and always thought I would love to have my own, but never took the plunge. This was most likely because I was in college, always working three jobs, maintaining a long distance relationship and trying to figure out what the hell I was doing after school. It wasn't until I was pregnant with Skylor that I thought, 'hell, I'm going to do this, I need to start thinking of a name!' I use to write names down in my phone and and go on namechk.com to see if the name was available. I wanted to make sure that I could have the website as well as all social media accounts under one name. To me it was important as I hated finding bloggers and YouTubers that have all different names on social media. I also Googled, how to name your blog and read every article there was. I'm not kidding, I honestly read tons of articles on 'What's in a blog name' or 'How to name your blog.' What I got out of it all was it needed to be short and sweet, something that people would remember easily and that could not be spelled wrong {or in a way that people would get confused.} It also shouldn't have the word 'the' or 'blog' in it, such as www.chelsealovespizzablog.com or thechelseablog.com.

I also started thinking what I wanted my blog to be about or what 'category' I would consider it to be. I read blogs about fashion, finance, babies, DIY, beauty and lifestyle. I knew that I wanted it to represent me and my life and everything that I'm interested and involved in. Because if I'm sharing my life with the world, I want the world to see it through my eyes. This is why you will find beauty and hair posts, fashion finds and coupon deals, mommy moments and toddler meltdowns, real life confessions and photos, lots of photos. East Willow Grove is simply a lifestyle blog that focuses on life, imagine that!

Now to the part of where the name came from, which I'm sure that's why you're reading this {minus the fact that I have a big giveaway, right? right.} Now as I mentioned before I had notes in my phone titled 'Blog Names'. I remember thinking that I loved how short and simple Pink Peonies and Ivory Lane was and I had been thinking about the name 'Sequins and Sippys.' While the name was available I thought about it and in 3 years now from now I may hate sequins and sippy cups may no longer run my life. I also had the word willow written down. I can't remember when or why but it was there and I just loved it.

On Sundays I usually would go to church with either all the boys or sometimes just one. This Sunday was weird, Sky wasn't up from his nap, Jerek wanted to do things around the house and Tracen wasn't feeling like leaving the house, so I hopped in the car and took full advantage of going solo. I also needed some alone time. While I had actually left early, I took a route that had so much construction I was actually 10 minutes late. Sitting in traffic behind a kajillion cars turning left into the parking lot, I glanced over and saw the street name from the picture. Looked at it and realized it had willow in it. I wrote it down and went to church. I had never been to church alone and it was a totally different feeling. I told myself if by the time I got home, looked up the name, if all of the social media sites weren't taken, that was it. When I got home and checked I was pretty disappointed. The website was taken as it was a resort in Tennessee. I started thinking I was never going to find something that I liked. I'm not sure why I kept looking and trying to make it work but I typed in East Willow Grove and boom. NOTHING was taken, so I took it. Every account that I thought I would use.

And there you have it, the story that started it all! Sorry that was so lengthly!

With next Wednesday being my 'actual' 1 year blogiversary {since pushing publish} I'm having a big giveaway with some of my favorite things as a huge Thank You! I would love to personally thank each and every one of you that has read, commented and shared East Willow Grove but that would cost a lot in gas and as you remember, I live in a house full of boys with very large stomachs. All details for the giveaway are below and it will stay open for one week. The winner will be announced next Wednesday, the 25th in the "one year" post.
{Everything was purchased with my own cash flow & this is in no way shape or form a sponsored post}

Oh Hey Friday || All Things Fall + Giveaway

Lets be honest with ourselves here. It's August 22nd and I live in Michigan.
This past winter was one of the worst winters yet.
I could go back to all the Facebook post from January and show you the feet of snow people posted but there is really no need to remind ourselves of that nonsense.

What I do need to remind you of is that Fall is JUST around the corner. No really, like if you look around the corner at Starbucks, there are pumpkin spice lattes being prepped and scarf wearing people working on their laptops. It's a glorious thing really!

Fall is my favorite season. I don't do cold well and I don't do sweltering hot either. The spring in Michigan is bullshit to put it lightly, but the fall, the fall is AMAZING. With the leaves starting to change and the beanies and boots preparing for their arrival there is a smell in the air that I can't help but love. I know, I know, I'm rushing summer out of the house like she was a bad bootay call but Fall is my JAM!
So what do we do on Fridays {besides eat Pizza!}, we link up!
Not only am I linking up with these two wonderful ladies{Karli & Amy} BUT I'm part of a massive giveaway going on as well! So after I get your mind, body and soul all geared up for fall, pop on over to SEPTEMBER Farm and meet some new ladies, and enter to win that cash money! You can then spend it on things like Pumpkin Spice lattes, beanies and boots! Cause you know I would!

1| Nikon Monopoly 40mm Watch- this is semi unrealistic but I've been lusting after this baby for a while now. {Le sigh}

2| JC Rumble Boots-Also unrealistic, but I've wanted these for a few seasons now because they go with EVERYTHING! Contemplating that blow to the wallet though, yikesss.

3| Pumpkin Spice Latte-Figure out the code and you could get pumpkin spice latte on Aug 26 instead of Sep 2! Mark my words, I WILL figure this out!!!!

4| MK Jet Set small travel tote- Dying over neutrals lately and navy is my go to blue these days. With fall coming I ultimately carry a huge bag and this baby needs to be in my life.

5| Flannels-The least expensive clothing item on the list and the only one I've already purchased {this past weekend}. I plan on stocking my closet with a few different color variations of these. They are great for layering well into the spring even!

Conclusion? My taste is getting more expensive by the minute and my wallet is going to jump ship sooner rather than later. What is YOUR fall staple? Anything I should swap out that I would like but for a better price, I'm all ears, I do love a great deal!

Don't forget to check out the amazing amazing giveaway hosted by Karli from SEPTEMBER Farm and enter enter enter! If you win, make sure you let me know, we could like, go shopping together, maybe you could buy me a PSL? No....okay then.

Freshly Picked Moccasins Review + GIVEAWAY!!!

Every mom has something that they lust for, something that they want for their little one but are on the fence about spending their hard earned cash on. I've been following Freshly Picked for a while now & these moccasins make my heart happy. Ever since I saw Kourtney Kardashian's son wearing them I've had some serious talks with myself on what color I should get.  I've also debated on how I could explain to Jerek that they are worth the $60 or, if I should just order them and hide them in Skylors closet and do the old "these old things? We've had these foreeeevverrr!!!" {sometimes it works, most times it doesn't!}

Lucky for me I was reading my girlfriend Chelsea's {nice name huh} blog and saw she was hosting a giveaway for a pair! I never win anything but figured #YOLO {yup, said it} and entered and kept on reading. I was sitting at work a few weeks ago and got an email and tweet saying "Congrats, you won!" GET THE EFF OUT!!!!! I was SO excited! Not only do I never win things, I never win GOOD things! As much as I wanted to go balls to the wall crazy and get the neon green ones, I had the practical Chelsea on my shoulder {I don't really like her} and decided to get the butterscotch ones instead. They arrived in three days time which is fast in my book!

Skylor has been able to rip socks off his feet since day 1. I have a huge bin full of shoes from Tracen that I've loved and saved for Skylor to wear but nothing like FP mocs. Shoes have been out of the question because I can't keep them on his feet! He's starting to crawl and pull himself up so I know I need to start putting some soft sole shoes on his feet sooner than later. When I ordered my FP mocs, I used the sizing chart that is provided on the website {GENIUS!} Sky is almost in a size 2 according to the chart but I wanted these to be a little big and have him grow into them. I went ahead and ordered a 3 and hoped that I could at least snag some cute pictures of him wearing them before he ripped them off! I was amazed at how great they stayed on his feet even being a size bigger than what he is currently in! They are snug without being tight on his little chunky legs! I'm excited for his feet to grow a little bit more so they fit perfectly.

There are a few things I enjoy coming home to after a long day of work. That being the three blondes that are my boys and the other is shiny boxes from the postman. Last week I got home before all of the boys and found a box waiting there for me. Lonely, sad and just longing to be opened. I was waiting on a few different items but this was the most exciting! Another pair of mocs!

This time I had told that annoying practical Chelsea to buzz off and ordered the color aruba. The color is more vibrant and gorgeous in person than on the website and the website was what lured me in at first! This color can be for girls or boys {regardless of what anyone tells you!}

There are plenty of other moccasins out there that are less expensive but the quality shows right through the price. Susan at Freshly Picked has an amazing story, a phenomenal work ethic and a sensational outlook. So here is where the fun opportunity I was given or rather YOU all were given! Freshly Picked has given me a pair of mocs to giveaway to one of you lucky mama's, aunts, grandma's or brothers sisters girlfriend that has a little mini that would love to rock these puppies! Any color, any size!

The rules are simple and you have more than one opportunity to win! Happy Giveaway Monday!
